Reviving The Owl's Howl

After a hiatus of sorts, efforts are underway to howl again. Here is the new post from my web-comic blog ‘The Owl’s Howl’.

Creative Gaga magazine, March 2011

My blog was showcased on ‘Trend Feed’ in the March 2011 issue of the Creative Gaga magazine, published from New Delhi. The issue looks fabulous and it features some of the most talented Indian illustrators/designers including my good buddies Harikrishnan Panicker and Harshvardhan Kadam, based out of Denver and Pune respectively.

Inter-galactic rickshaw ride
I drew this after a midnight rickshaw ride sitting next to a beautiful woman, when the rain made the dim streetlights look like stars and planets. I guess the wine at dinner did contribute to the experience quite a lot!

Wild Fire
One of those pieces that i drew very naturally by letting the lines be where ever they wanted to be. Amazingly it was quite effortless and I really liked how it came to be. The idea was the representation of an Elemental, having being born out of the very basic fundamentals of nature.

Moleskine Pages

Here’s uploading few scans from my old moleskine. These were mostly drawn sitting in coffee shops or while taking breaks from work.

The Owl's Howl - My new webcomics

Announcing my latest project ‘The Owl’s Howl’, a weekly updated webcomics about life and all the jazz surrounding it. I am keeping it open ended in terms of story, format and representation as I want this experiment to take a life of its own and evolve over time.

Here’s the first post. Follow it on: http://theowlshowl.blogspot.com/

A beautiful girl can make you dizzy, like you’ve been drinking Jack and Coke all morning. She can make you feel high full of the single greatest commodity known to man - promise. Promise of a better day. Promise of a greater hope. Promise of a new tomorrow. This particular aura can be found in the gait of a beautiful girl. In her smile, in her soul, the way she makes every rotten little thing about life seem like it’s going to be okay.” - Beautiful Girls (1996)
Man About Town
Something that was in my sketchbook for sometime now. Finally getting around finishing and uploading it.

The task of thinking is to live with doubt in the service of understanding, rather than living with certainty in the preservation of ignorance.” -Caspar Melville
Gulliver Travels Downtown
Work on this piece happened in two sessions, almost a year apart. I initially drew this friend of mine, sitting and playing NFS Undercover on a laptop next to me. It was a quick marker sketch and wasn’t intended for anything more.
Later, while browsing through my sketchbook, I looked at it and felt that it lacked something. I love Architecture, spaces and cityscapes (given that I was trained as an Architect) and with time at my hands, I sat and drew an entire city underneath him. A paradoxical theme emerged as I worked my way through the details, of a city for just one guy, and the guy who is too big to fit in.

Up In The Hair
Sapna Bhavnani, the fire-brand woman behind Mad-O-Wot, asked me to do a piece for her salon. The brief was simple: Surprise me!
Looking for an idea to start with, I turned to Sapna herself- a hair-stylist, model, writer, film-maker, musician and an activist. The idea got transformed into a world that thrives on a woman’s imagination and her love for beautiful things. There was eventually a coloured version of the same, but I still prefer the B&W piece, and so does Sapna.
